What are the different treatments for asthma?

Most people diagnosed with asthma will be able to control the symptoms through their medical treatment.

The most commonly prescribed anti-asthma treatments are preventative or relieving inhalers . However, for some long-term treatments, a combination of drugs or a non-steroidal inhaler will be favored.

We have developed a guide to help you better understand the different types of treatment and how they work.

What are relief inhalers?

All asthmatics will be prescribed a reliever inhaler to relieve chest tightness, shortness of breath and wheezing symptoms associated with an asthma attack.

This category of inhalers is usually blue in color. They allow to quickly relax the respiratory muscles, to offer immediate relief to the patient. Both types of medications are salbutamol and terbutaline and are called bronchodilators.

Using a reliever inhaler more than three times in a week indicates that your asthma is not being properly managed. If you are concerned, we invite you to consult your doctor so that you may prescribe a preventive inhaler.

What are preventative inhalers?

Preventive inhalers are often brown in color and should be used regularly (usually twice a day). They help to prevent asthma attacks. This type of treatment will not be prescribed to all asthmatics.

Prevention inhalers contain a dose of corticosteroid, to act directly on the airways and lungs, and to reduce inflammation.

This category of treatment works in the long term. You can wait two weeks before seeing the benefits. It is important to continue your treatment as prescribed by your doctor, even if you do not feel any symptoms.

It is advisable to use your treatment every day at the same time. This will help you introduce it into your routine and avoid all forgetting.

What are long-lasting relief inhalers?

Long-term relief inhalers are prescribed in conjunction with a daily preventive inhaler.

Two categories of drugs are prescribed for this purpose: long-acting beta-agonists and long-acting muscarinic receptor antagonists.

These types of treatments help to relax the muscles around the airways and encourage their opening to breathe more air into the lungs. The muscarinic receptor antagonist inhalers also help to reduce the amount of mucus produced by the respiratory tract.

It can be dangerous to use this type of inhaler without steroid inhaler prevention. In addition, it is important to remember that immediate-acting relief inhalers should also be used in an emergency.

What are combination inhalers?

This type of inhaler contains a combination of long-acting relief medications, called long-acting beta-agonists.

Seretide and Symbicort are two drugs in this category. They help reduce shortness of breath and reduce the sensation of tightness in the chest, as well as prevent long-term inflammation of the airways.

This category of inhaler is generally prescribed to patients who are unable to control their asthma and who frequently respond to the triggers of asthma. Asthmatics who have a combination inhaler, must also have with them a reliever inhaler to react quickly in case of an asthma attack.

What are non-steroidal inhalers?

As their name implies, non-steroidal inhalers do not contain steroids.

There are two non-steroidal inhalers: intal, which contains sodium cromoglycate and is generally used for patients with exercise asthma; and the tilade, which consists of sodium. These two active substances promote the opening of the airways and calm inflammation.

These are two alternatives for people with asthma who do not support the use of steroids.

What is prevention and reliever therapy?

This category of drugs will only be prescribed to patients over 18, who have real difficulties controlling their asthmatic symptoms.

This therapy helps to reduce bronchial inflammation and relieve sudden symptoms of asthma. It does not require the prescription of a separate reliever dulera inhaler because the inhalers of this therapy can also be used in an emergency.

When the symptoms worsen, the patient can increase the dosage to the maximum, after prior discussion with the doctor.

The two brand name drugs available are Symbicort SMART and Fostair MART.

What are the different inhalers?

Inhalers for asthma exist in many forms. And they have been specifically developed to deliver the correct dose of medication and be as effective as possible. Some of these inhalers may not be right for you, so it’s important to regularly check with your doctor for regular checkups.

Inhaler doser:

It is one of the most frequently prescribed inhalers. It is also called aerosol-doser or inhaler-spray.

It provides the appropriate dose of medication, via an inhaler or aerosol spray, which is propelled into the airways through a pressurized gas.

The active agent is expelled from the aerosol chamber by pushing the mouthpiece of the inhaler. In order to properly inhale the correct dosage, you must coordinate your breathing with the pressure of the bomb. This process can be difficult for some people to follow. In this case, the doctor may offer another type of inhaler, with a suitable device.

Inhaler operated by aspiration:

The inhaled inhaler is an alternative to other devices.

As its name suggests, this type of inhaler can directly release the active substance by breathing through the device.

Inhalers powered by aspiration are available in two dosing forms. These are used by breathing normally. They are also in the form of dry powder, which imposes an effort of inspiration a little more important because the complete dosage must be inhaled.

Inhalation chambers:

Inhalation chambers are used in conjunction with a metered dose inhaler to help the patient receive the correct dose of medication.

It may be difficult for some patients to coordinate their breathing while pressing the top of the cartridge, which prevents them from receiving the correct dose of treatment.

An inhalation chamber is an empty plastic bottle, at the end of which is fixed an inhaler. With the tip, the patient can inhale the medication by breathing normally.

The patient should not focus as much to inspire as when using a conventional inhaler. It is particularly suitable for children and allows to properly inhale the treatment to the lungs and other parts of the body.

It has been noted that the use of an inhalation chamber can also reduce the risk of side effects such as oral mycosis.

Nebulizer :

The nebulizer is a device that converts the drug in liquid form into a breathable mist.

They are usually used in the hospital to deliver a large dose of treatment to a patient with an asthma attack, who is tired or has difficulty breathing. Nebulizers can be used in conjunction with a face mask, which helps the patient to breathe easily.

They are no longer used as much as in the past and scientific research has shown that the use of conventional inhalers is just as effective. Dulera inhaler is the one of the best treatment for asthma. You can buy cheaply by using dulera coupon on Prescription Hope.
